What can be done about food waste?

I (M) have two school friends who are not siblings (W15 Germans), their parents are rich and real philistines, e.g. You have given her an age limit of up to FSK 12 on her Netflix account, they have installed a tracking and monitoring app on her cell phone. You are immediately worried when she comes home a little later after school, which is why she almost runs to the bus stop. She has to take violin lessons and will probably also get Spanish, with school time until 3:30 pm. She also wants to go to boarding school after finishing secondary school.

and (M15 half Mexican / half German), who are extremely wasteful. They buy something to eat every lunch break, e.g. A pretzel and another candy. Yesterday they each bought a bag of gingerbread hearts, didn't even eat half of it and then threw them in the trash before school started. Today it was the same with a pack of shock cookies and so on every day.

It looks like it now, but you are not aloof, no extremely expensive branded clothes, no expensive cell phone…, she likes to share and is also nice. When I ask them why they always throw the food away and don't take it home, they say that they don't feel like carrying it home with them. I wonder what's going on in the mind of such people? I just think it's easy to throw everything away as long as the parents pay and wish them to cash in karma and not have it to eat.

What do you think about such people and how can I make it clear to them that this is not okay?

First of all, too much food is produced anyway and if nobody buys it, then something goes moldy.

You haven't tried to make them understand this is stupid. You just asked why they threw it away.

This is annoying as it is a waste of money. So much food is produced that much of it ends up in the trash anyway, no matter how your friends behave. You're just wasting your money on it.
