Do I have Tourette's syndrome?

I'm 17 years old and I've actually had a tick all my life. I only really noticed this tick a few years ago. Both my family and other close ones like my friend have noticed this tick. My boyfriend thinks it's cute and funny, my family just laughs at it. Since then I have become more and more aware of the tic.

At this tick I wave my hands wildly in each other. I think it is triggered by strong emotions, mostly with great joy. That can be if, for example, I'm watching a series on netflix and something cool, exciting or funny is happening on the series. But that also happens when, for example, I imagine such situations with friends or family.

In general, this tic is not getting any worse, it has always remained unchanged. Now my question is what is that? Or why am I doing this? Do I have Tourette? Or is that normal?

I'm aware that no one can give me a 100 percent answer now. I just want to know if you guys have a guess.

P.s. I only have this one tick.

I do not think so. For example, I always shake myself when I get into a car. It's annoying differently, but I think everyone has their own specialty. With some it is stronger and more noticeable with some only very slightly

I don't know, I think only a doctor can tell you that.

From "thunderstorms in your head" I know that you not only have these tics sometimes, but in almost every situation and that you can't defend yourself against it, it just comes out of you like a sneeze.

Could also be an obsession, something like an impulse control disorder.

Or something neurological.

As I said, you can only be sure if a doctor looks at it

This is not a Tourette but just a bit like you wrote yourself…

If you want to be certain, I would first have your family doctor check it out. If necessary, they can refer you to specialists. Unfortunately, there isn't a doctor here to see and examine you, so please don't get mad.

No matter what it will look like later, I wish you all the best.

Every Tourette has different tics and can be differently pronounced. With "thunderstorms in the head" it is very pronounced. But a friend of mine also has Tourette and he has a tick every 5-10 minutes.

With the best of my knowledge, I would clearly say you don't have a Tourette.

I also have this "handshake".

It's just a way of expressing one's feelings, such as joy or excitement.

I don't know exactly why the body does this, but it is very likely nothing dangerous and definitely not a Tourette.
